I close my eyes and try to run away again. It seems like this is all I do anymore; run away, that is. The crisp air gasps and pounds in my heart and little ice crystals rip apart my throat and shred into my lungs that are struggling for breath. My heart pounds against my rib cage, threatening to burst out of my chest and lie throbbing on the ground. My head spins lightly and dips off listlessly into a land where I can forget. My arms pump back and forth through the unresisting air, mechanically doing their job. Every muscle in my body aches and I can feel the lack of oxygen affecting them as the blood pulses through every fiber and sinew, every tendon, every cell. My feet push into the ground, exploding forward, carrying me away from everything. Everything that I hate, everything that I can’t handle. Everything that overcomes me. Run away, don’t look back. Ignore the problem, that way it won’t really be there. It’s better to just forget that it all exists. Run away to a place where problems don’t subsist, where everything is blank of emotion and pain. A place where life is simple and kind to a person. Like that exists. I know it doesn’t, but I’d like to pretend it does. For my sanity I will. For my sanity I will run away.
